Group addresses

List, edit, import, export and (when connected) read and write group addresses.

The Group addresses section lists every group address of the project with its name, the last value seen on the bus (when you are connected), its data type, its range (main and middle group) and the number of devices that use it. The search box matches address, name, type and range. Up to 2000 rows are shown; narrow the search for more.

Groups

The list is laid out under the main and middle groups the addresses are in. Click a group head (▾ / ▸) to collapse or expand it; the number in brackets is how many addresses it holds. While a search is active, every match is shown.

The pencil button directly behind the name of a main or middle group renames it: type the new name and press Rename (Escape cancels). The name of the sub group level is the name of the group address itself, which you edit in its editor. Groups nested deeper than main and middle, and groups without an address, cannot be edited yet.

Editing

  • New… creates a group address. If the main group and the middle group that cover it do not exist (as in a project made with Start from scratch), they are created with it. A project that uses a flat main group keeps it flat, and a project with free addressing has no groups.
  • Select a row to edit its name, description and data type, or delete it. The data type field lists the data types from the KNX master data with their description (for example DPST-9-1, temperature), and finds them by a word of the description as well as by the id. Leave it empty for none.

Import and export

Import/Export… opens a panel with two directions.

  • Export writes all group addresses to a file, as CSV (the ETS 5.7 and later format) or as the group address export XML. If the file exists you are asked before it is replaced.
  • Import reads an ETS CSV or XML export. Click Check file first: you see what would change (addresses added, updated, new groups created, unchanged, skipped) and any notes. New main and middle groups are created as needed. Addresses that already exist are left alone unless you tick Update name, description and type of existing addresses. Import applies everything as one change, and Undo reverts all of it.

Reading and writing on the bus

When you are connected and Allow sending is on, a selected group address shows a send panel.

  • Read sends one group value read. The answer, if any, appears in the monitor.
  • Write… takes a value in the form of the group address’s data type (for example 21.5, 50 %, on), shows a preview of what will be sent, and sends only after you confirm. Data types that cannot be written yet are marked, and a group address without a data type cannot be written.

Telegrams are at least 250 ms apart. See safety.
